The Waveney House Hotel was the venue for our Birthday Lunch. At 12.30 we tucked into a delicious meal and, as a vegetarian, i particularly enjoyed my 'three bean tartlet', followed by chocolate brownie - with not a mushroom risotto (the usual fate of vegetarians) in sight! After lunch our President and other members entertained us with poetry and a monologue that told us the final fate of Albert after he was eaten by the lion in Blackpool zoo! We concluded with the raffle draw and everyone went away contented and replete.
We started by listening to the presentations on the two resolutions for the national AGM. The first concerned encouraging supermarkets to avoid food waste and the second about allowing carers the same rights to remain with dementia sufferers admitted to hospital as parents currently enjoy with children. Both resolutions were overwhelmingly supported. The rest of the meeting was a celebration of 'all things nonagenarian'! Those of our current members who fall into this group, former WI Presidents, plus the Mayor Of Beccles and the Mayoress were our special guests. We were entertained by the Singing for Fun group, who finished their performance with a witty rewrite of the lyrics of "My Favourite Things'. We appreciated the beautiful celebratory fruit cake made by our President and the tasty nibbles provided by the Co-op.
We were reminded :1 Of our birthday lunch at Waveney House Hotel (12 for 12.30) on May 18th - please bring a (nice) raffle prize!
2 Our June meeting will be held at Blyburgate Hall, starting at 10am.
